Performed by Tute Chigamba, from the album Yangu Ndega
“Chipindura” (Change), let’s say it’s a bira ceremony. There are spirits who can possess any time, at the beginning of the bira ceremony. And when it is around twelve, those spirits will move away. Then we start playing “Chipindura.” When we play c”Chipindura,” we play for a while, and then start playing other songs again .
So as soon as we play “Chipindura,” that is to say, “We are changing.” Now, we are looking for the mhondoro spirits, and the great ancestors, those are the spirits. Because we know that there are some mediums here who are possessed by those spirits. They possess around two, three, and four in the morning.
